--Take
A Student To Work--
What’s
the Program About?
The Student to Work Program takes
at-risk youth to your workplace. The
students spend the lunch hour talking
with the employees and then take a
tour of the workplace. The goal of
the Student to Work Program is to
help the students expand their horizons,
learn the ingredients of success and
wet their appetite for learning.
How does
it work ?
Once mentors are approved with the
HeadSmart program, the HeadSmart mentor
will make arrangements with a group
of 2-3 students 2 weeks prior to the
day. The arrangements may include
transportation.
How
does the program help youth ?
Many young persons have not had the
opportunity to explore horizons outside
their own neighborhoods. The program
gives youth and mentors the opportunity
to interact in a positive and enlightening
setting. The experience is a rewarding
one for everyone involved, allowing
the youth an opportunity to see hands
on how businesses are run from the
inside.

--SPORTS
PROGRAM--
Sports Programs
are held in 8-10 week sessions.
|
For 3 hours once
a week, a group of 10-14 youth
are transferred to a athletic
facility where basketball, softball,
soccer and other sports are taught
from the fundamentals to strategy.
Using drills and creative games
we emphasize a commitment to learning
and success of pre-set individual
and group goals.
|
--After
School Program--
Our After-School
Program is an after-school program
of educational instruction, mentoring
and enrichment activities held at
local middle schools. It is designed
to increase the aspirations of middle
school students and to encourage
them to remain in school.
In addition to demonstrating
the importance of education, hard
work and commitment, this program
provides its young participants
with an opportunity to benefit from
interaction with the adult roles
models who volunteer.
|
Instead of taking
to the streets when the bell rings
at the end of school each day,
students take a seat to enhance
their reading, mathematics, computer,
and arts skills. They interact
with positive role models, build
their self-esteem, and develop
mentoring relationships with volunteers.
Through After-School Program,
the students improve their academics
and receive mentoring and tutoring
from community and business leaders.
They also hear guest speakers,
learn more about computers, develop
a sense of belonging and team
spirit through athletics, and
attend performances by local artists.
